Chris Thompson

Senior Adviser for Enterprise & Innovation, Ravensbourne. Consultant for Media and Technology Sectors, Royal Borough of Greenwich

Chris Thompson began working for the media and design sectors in 2000, when he joined the global industry-education awards and professional body D&AD as its Graduate Programme Manager. In this role he developed the award-winning Bloodbank website and the pioneering New Blood exhibition, and built up a global education network of more than 100 university design, media and creative technology courses. Chris later became D&AD’s Director of Education and Professional Development, working with many of the world’s leading design, advertising and media agencies - alongside universities - to build industry-led education, training and recruitment programmes which have launched many new design and media careers and businesses.

In 2007 Chris joined Ravensbourne as Head of Enterprise and Innovation, before becoming Director of Enterprise, Innovation and Marketing to spearhead Ravensbourne’s relocation and positioning as a radically different, industry-focused higher education institution for London with a strong digital focus. Since then Chris, has taken the institution forward on its journey to become London’s first truly networked digital media, design and communications institute and has led its business, commercial and innovation activities.

Whilst at Ravensbourne, Chris created the award-winning Eco Incubator, which today has supported more than 120 design and creative technology businesses. He has also led internal academic and technical teams spanning prototyping; employability (delivering 100% graduate employability); events; CPD in innovation, design and media; industry partnerships; and commercial student initiatives through the Studio 6 project.  Finally, he has led new R&D commissions including research for Samsung, Ogilvy and Cisco.

Today Chris runs his own company ‘Gray Digital’, which contracts him as a Senior Advisor for Enterprise and Innovation for Ravensbourne and as a Consultant for Design, Media and Technology Sector growth for the Royal Borough of Greenwich. He operates across these two organisations to pioneer the importance of creativity, innovation and joined up partnership working to drive regional growth, new service development and the creation of new jobs to stimulate the economy.
