Co-Founder of benchpeg
Rebecca van Rooijen has worked in the public and private sectors specialising in jewellery industry support initiatives for the past ten years which have included the Jewellery Sector Investment Plan (JSIP), the Jeweller’s Toolkit and long running programmes at the Goldsmiths’ Company. Most recently, she worked as part of the senior management team for the design and delivery of the Goldsmiths’ Centre project in Central London.
Rebecca is Co-Founder of benchpeg, an initiative created in 2005 in order to strengthen a fragmentedjewellery industry and create a communication platform on which the industry could thrive. Today benchpeg supports jewellers, designers, craftsmen and the wider jewellery industry providing links between the trade, academia, designers and retail via its focused website, e-newsletter and philosophy of free information exchange. Through the fostering of its large online jewellery community, benchpeg has used its networks to place over 350 individuals in employment with companies such as Asprey, Garrards, Boodles and De Beers.
benchpeg has a growing team of industry professionals who work on collaborative based projects including those based in new technology and manufacture. Partners have included World Skills, London Jewellery Week, New Designers, International Jewellery London, Creative and Cultural Skills and the Crafts Council.
Rebecca graduated with a first class honours from Birmingham’s School of Jewellery and has an MA in Arts Management. She is an elected Council Member of the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council and is a Freeman of the Goldsmiths’ Company.
